“The Forgotten Caregiver of Mental Crisis”
I don’t want you to walk your caregiving journey alone.
That’s why I share my personal caregiving story with you. I also want you to have the resources I desperately needed which is why I share neuroscience, faith, and professional recommendations. I and my husband desire healing and life for you and your loved one who is struggling. We desire healing in your situation so much we choose to be transparent and share about one of our darkest seasons to help lift you out of the darkness of mental crisis you are currently walking through…
My desire is for you to feel SEEN, SUPPORTED, and NOT ALONE anymore.
Caregiving for any condition is heavy and challenging (whether a physical or mental health condition). It requires much of you. Caregiver burden encompasses all the responsibilities and weight you carry as a caregiver. I’m a caregiver for medical conditions in addition to mental health caregiving.
As such, my heart is for the caregiver—for you to be equipped, have resources to care for yourself, and to be empowered to value your needs and care while you care for your loved one.
There are SIX chapters in my book just for you, friend, for caring for yourself.
Why? Because you matter. Just as you are. Not for any role you hold. Not for what you do. Just, you. As a person.
You, friend, matter and deserve care also.
“The Forgotten Caregiver of Mental Crisis” is for you. I believe you should never have to walk through mental crisis for a loved one by yourself, trying to figure it out as you go. I was alone in my caregiving journey. I don’t want you to be. This book is the book I wish I’d had in the chaotic, exhausting, unrelenting season of crisis for my loved one. My book comes alongside you as the friend you need who understands, because they’ve been through a very similar season themselves. It would be my honor to walk your journey alongside you.

"Amber Parker's courageous and vulnerable book speaks directly to all the fear, pain, frustration and determination felt by those who face the possibility of losing a loved one to suicide."

The Forgotten Caregiver of Mental Crisis helps the primary caregiver of suicidality after trauma to navigate the chaos and turmoil of crisis caregiving with increased hope, resilience, and practical strategies to aid the caregiver in fighting for their loved one’s life whilst simultaneously caring for themselves. This book comes out of the author’s personal story of fighting for her Veteran husband’s life after combat trauma turned into PTSD and other comorbidities including suicidal ideation, plan, and attempt. Written from an integrated faith, neuroscience, and psychology standpoint, the reader will find actionable content to implement into their own caregiving journey as they grow in their understanding of trauma and suicide while navigating their loved one’s serious mental health conditions. Evidence-based recommendations and treatment options are intertwined with lived experience insight throughout the book due to the author’s research and science background as a medical provider (Physician Assistant). In these pages, the reader will learn how to recognize caregiver burden and burnout and potential impacts of their caregiving to include trauma or emotional struggles which may need treatment and support for themselves in as well.
With focused sections on PTSD and suicide in the military and veteran population, this book also highlights a crucial conversation within the landscape of trauma and suicide mental health conditions with the hope of turning the tide on the number of veteran deaths. May the reader find a comprehensive and approachable guide in The Forgotten Caregiver of Mental Crisis in the difficult landscape of trauma and suicidal mental health concerns.
While this book addresses difficult topics, the reader is welcomed into the space as a friend and offered compassion, validation, and authenticity. After reading these pages, may they be better equipped to navigate the trenches of suicidal caregiving and finally feel seen and find permission to care for themselves also. May they not be forgotten ever again, by others or by themselves. May there be balanced care and support for their loved one struggling and themselves. May they find safe, trusted community and a path forward toward healing and wholeness. May the caregiver of suicidality know they are not alone in their battle, anymore. They have a friend who understands and comes alongside them.
